Propenal

The discovery of the unsaturated aldehyde propenal (CH2CHCHO) in Sagittarius B2(N) was reported by Hollis et al. in 2004 using the NRAO Green Bank Telescope. Another aldehyde, propanal, was discovered simulaneously.

Also known as acrolein, propenal is used as a starting chemical (feedstock) for other chemicals, such as polyurethane. It is toxic and has a pungent odor.
