The initial detection of methoxymethanol (CH3OCH2OH) was reported in 2017 by
McGuire et al. toward the
MM1 core in NGC 6334I, a massive
protocluster in the
Cat's Paw nebula. The observations were performed with
ALMA using new data for methoxymethanol measured by
Motiyenko et al. A
map
of methoxymethanol, (c) in the upper right corner of the figure, was included in the publication.
Methoxymethanol has subsequently also been observed toward
IRAS 16293-2422 A by
Manigand et al.
As Wikipedia notes,
Methoxymethanol is both an ether and an alochol.
