Version 0.1

Astrochemistry is the study of the nature, behavior, and history of molecules and materials in various astronomical environments. Theoretical chemistry contributes to understanding astrochemical processes at the molecular level in a number of ways:

  • Quantum chemical calculations of structure, chemistry, and spectroscopic properties
  • Kinetic theory of chemical rates and collision behavior
  • Molecular dynamics or Monte Carlo simulations of extended model systems
The goals of the Theory of Astrochemical Processes Network are
  • To improve awareness among the full astrochemistry community of who contributes to this area and where their interests lie
  • To promote communication and collaboration between molecular theorists and experimentalists, modelers, and astronomers
  • To organize efforts to enhance the impact of molecular theorists on the full astrochemistry community
